Brown cloth hard cover with gilt and black bordering on the front and additional gilt titles on the spine, and only minimal cover wear confined to creased spine ends. Inside the front cover is a book plate - The gift of M Oppenheim (bibliophile and pioneer historian of English naval administration, 1853-1927) to Bath PublicReference Library in 1919, but none of the usual lending library labels.
