"The battery was organized Lynnfield, Massachusetts and mustered in September 9, 1862 for a three-year enlistment under the command of Captain Jacob Henry Sleeper. The battery was attached to Grover's Brigade, Military District of Washington, to February 1863. Jewett's Brigade, XX Corps, Department of Washington, to June 1863. French's Command, VIII Corps, to July 1863. Artillery Brigade, III Corps, Army of the Potomac, to March 1864. Artillery Brigade, II Corps, Army of the Potomac, to June 1865. The 10th Massachusetts Battery mustered out of service June 9, 1865 and was discharged on June 14, 1865." Sleeper's unit served in some of the most important battles of the war, including the Battle of the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and Appomattox. Red cloth with gilt titling and illustration to front and spine. Square tight binding. Clean interior. Mild wear to binding, including a small bump at upper front corner and a touch of light sunning to spine. Overall a lovely 1st Edition of an extremely scarce title.
