Beschreibung
Two wonderful early twentieth century ornithological works, examining the home lives of the Osprey and Golden eagle. Illustrated with mounted photographic plates. The first work present here is the first edition of American ornithologist and naturalist Clinton Gilbert Abbott's study of the osprey. Abbot was appointed Director of the San Diego Natural History Museum in 1922.This work is illustrated with forty-two mounted photographic images - captured by Abbott and Howard H. Cleaves - on thirty-two plates. Retaining the original tissue guards. Collated, complete. Also present is the third edition of H. B. MacPherson's study of the golden eagle, also illustrated with thirty-two mounted plates. Collated, complete. To the front pastedown of this volume is a private library bookplate. Loosely inserted is a 1914 note on the stationary of Alnwick Castle, in which the letter writer - a member of the Percy family who have owned the castle since the fourteenth century - gives the book to one Mrs Muckhead, as he thinks it is 'a most attractive' work. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to spine head and tail. Light spotting and tide mark to tail of front board. Bookplate to 'Eagle' front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally clean and bright. One 'Eagle' volume plate partially detached. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 882F21
