One of 167 (1167) copies on W S Hodgkinson handmade paper, sewn and glued into Barcham Green blue thick handmade paper covers, title printed in black to the front. The Hopkins Society was the most regular client of the Stanbrook Abbey Press for private commissions, with a total of six booklets commissioned in the 1970s while the Society sought (and eventually achieved) recognition for Gerard Manley Hopkins in Poet's Corner, Westminster Abbey. This is the first such, and the only one (in its special edition, as here) to transcend otherwise purely utilitarian productions on machine-made paper. Of the 167 copies on handmade paper, 125 were signed by the author and numbered and the remainder, as here, were without the signature and unnumbered. The contents comprise a lecture on Hopkins given by the poet and scholar Kathleen Raine at University College, London in March 1972.
