The word "Hunkey" was a derogatory term for Hungarian and the peril is the existence of places such as "Little Italy", "China Town" and of course "Hunkey Hollow". The author's closing observation in the Preface: "The new generation must be American, both at heart and in fact, if this "peril" is to be eliminated.
