Octavo. v, [1], 336, [30] pp. Fifth edition, first American. With additions and corrections. In contemporary calf with morocco title label on the spine. Top corners of both boards are worn and rounded; board are a trifle bowed. Early family library rubber stamp to the endpapers and preliminaries; contemporary, or near contemporary notes to the front endpaper and scattered ink and pencil marginalia. This copy with the owner name of Nathaniel H. Claiborne on the title page that has been marked through; the name of Harden Hairston is beneath. Claiborne came from notable Virginia stock and was a lawyer and politician. Originally issued anonymously in 1760, the work is by Buller's uncle Henry Bathurst. Buller edited the edition of 1767 and may have been responsible for much of its arrangement and content. Buller's name first appears on it in 1772. This is the first American edition.
