Sanford, was an American screenwriter and author who wrote 24 books. A one-time member of the Communist Party, after he and his wife Marguerite Roberts refused to testify to the House Un-American Activities Committee, they were blacklisted and unable to work in Hollywood for nearly a decade. EVERY ISLAND FLED AWAY is his seventh novel and "tells the story of Carlo Pierce, a minister in a small California coast town, a man tortured by memory and doubt, uneasy with himself and the rest of the world. Pierce speaks out against the avarice, depravity, and corruption of his parishioners. He pleads for Matt Dana, a young man called up to fight and perhaps to die in a useless war. But the townspeople demand Dana as a sacrifice for their own sins." [from the dust jacket]. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 007024
