Dark green cloth with rough cut fore edge and bottom edge, The even cut top edge was not thorough and as a result, many pages were not cut leaving dozens of four page sections with an uncut top edge, probably the reason the pages look so new as no one could read the book without cutting the top of the page. This was not uncommon for book publishing back in the late 1800s and cutting machinery had not eveloved to the technology it enjoys today. Interestingly the paper label that is used as a title box has an "as new" looking twin laid in. Tempting as it is to replace the present faded ( but readable) label with the fresh new one,we include it but leave it for a new ownerto make that call. The back board show a minor damp stain and there is some soiling on the boards as well as minor shelf wear and slightly turned corners, Not withstanding these not so distracting flaws, it fresh clean and in a near fine codition.
