Quarto [26.5 cm] Red cloth with bold gilt stamped titles and gilt, white and black ink decorative patterns on the front cover. Very good. The covers are very subtly concave, and the spine ends and edges of the covers are lightly rubbed. The front cover is very mildly darkened and is just a little stained. Minor spine lean. The cloth at the spine ends and corners is slightly frayed. The edges of the text block are a bit foxed. Tanned pages. The book is sturdy. The illustrator, John Vassos, was the designer of the exterior of the RCA Corporation's first television set. Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Lovely copy of this science-fiction novella by Ruth Vassos illustrated by husband and industrial designer John Vassos. A different edition of this in blue cloth was issued with a dustjacket, but it is unclear if this version, likewise published in 1930, ever had one. 7.75" x 10.25" hardcover book in red cloth with gilt decoration/titling to front and spine. Unpaginated with black and white illustrations, printed in the "Knudsen Process", evidently a very fine-screened half-tone lithograph. Book, now in protective mylar jacket, from the collection of a tobacco smoker with attendant, mild tanning to spine and a faint smoky aroma within. Pages are however quite bright and crisp, illustrations vivid and attractive. Binding square, sound and firm. Includes twenty-two black and white illustrations by John Vassos, a 1930's book illustrator and long-term industrial designer. Vassos was the designer of the exterior of the RCA Corporation's first television set. In addition, he designed American pavilions for numerous international fairs. Inscribed by Vassos to Spyros Skouras on the half title page. Spyros Skouras (1873-1971) was a Greek American film pioneer and president of 20th Century Fox (1942-1962). While he was president, Skouras was credited with embracing cinemascope technology with the goal of saving the movie industry from the rising competition from television.
