The first edition of this very scarce work from H. de Vere Stacpoole, the author of the bestselling coming-of-age romance novel 'The Blue Lagoon'.Here the author offers a tragic novel about two look-alikes, one rich and the other poor, who exchange places for fun.The work had very little success, and he re-used much of the plot in 1819 for the novel 'The Man Who Lost Himself' (1918), in which a penniless American impersonates his rich lookalike in England.With the bookplate of the Stepney public libraries to the front pastedown, and their stamp to the verso of the title page, and to the final leaf.
