Publisher's black cloth in photographic dust-wrapper. A lightly used copy with some dustiness/spotting, jacket spine moderately sunned, some minor rubs, price-clipped. Very good indeed. Fleming's wartime intelligence operations with the resistance networks meant he was well placed to write a book about Nazi plans for the conquest of England. 'Invasion 1940' was a subsequent bestseller and his breakthrough work as an author of historical and military books, having previously achieved literary renown as a travel writer. The book was later published under the title 'Operation Sea Lion'. Lt.Col. Robert Peter Fleming OBE was a British adventurer and travel writer, brother of novelist Ian Fleming, and unofficial editor of his James Bond books. He has often been cited as a model for the debonair secret service agent created by his brother. The present copy is from the comprehensive archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencil signature within). His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012, published by Peter Fleming's daughter Kate Grimond) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert, p.618.
