Islamic pottery became popular in Japan in the mid 1920's when Yamanaka & Company imported it from all over the world. Because of the deeply rooted Japanese interest in the culture of ancient Persia, the Islamic wares came to be known in Japan as "Persian Pottery," a term that is still in general use today.
