This biography was written by his daughter Mary Augusta Austen Leigh, the great niece of Jane Austen, who also went on to write a biography about her great Aunt titled 'Personal aspects of Jane Austen' and a novel titled 'Hurst and Hanger'. This biography, while following the life of her father, also includes interesting information regarding Jane Austen including a letter to James from his father regarding Austen's declining health dated 1817, only a month before her death. Externally generally smart with cockling to the front joint, a slight lean, marks to the boards, rubbing to the joints, bumping to the extremities and closed tears to the head and tail of the spine.
