octavo, ca. 6" x 9", Japanese book, string bound in original orange paper wraps with moderately heavy wear, The books is all about fish and other sea creatures including otter, crab, octopus, squid, seals, etc. there are b&w images of all the creatures as well as water and plant life. The Japanese names are near most of them. There is an ink name and date 1903 Nikko Japan at the front of the book. There are pencil englsh names written near many of the fish and other creatures. It seems reasonable to suggest that this was used the help an english speaking foreigner learn Japanese names for the sea creatures. No publication date found, but estimating 1900 based on date entered by the visitor. Overall, a good copy and interesting possible history.
