Kosch VIII, 71. - Enthält die 16 Seiten umfassende ursprüngliche Erstausgabe (Seiten 1-16) mit dem im Oktober desselben Jahres gedruckten Nachwort von Arno Holz in der Streitsache mit Johannes Schlaf (Seiten 17-52). - Johannes Schlaf (Pseudonym Bjarne P. Holmsen zusammen mit Arno Holz), 1862-1941, [.] ab 1888 Zusammenarbeit und Freundschaft mit Arno Holz (später Bruch). Kosch XV, 66. - In der ein Jahrzehnt lang dauernden Streitsache zwischen Arno Holz und Johannes Schlaf geht es um die geistige bzw. stilistische Urheberschaft des "neuen deutschen Dramas" (Seite 1). - Als Begründung für das im Oktober 1902 gedruckte Nachwort führt Arno Holz an: "Ich hatte mein 'nothgedrungenes Kapitel' bereits in Druck gegeben, als mir durch Herrn Dr. Josef Ettlinger, den Herausgeber des 'Litterarischen Echos', der Correkturabzug eines Schlafschen Artikels zuging, betitelt 'Arno Holz und ich'. In seinem Begleitbrief theilte Herr Dr. Ettlinger mit, [dass er] es jedoch für seine Pflicht [hielte], mir vorher davon Kenntnis zu geben, für den Fall ich vielleicht im Anschluß daran eine Erwiderung zu geben wünsche" (Seite 17). - Unbeschnittene Exemplare, das Nachwort lose beiliegend. - Provenienz: Carl Feustel, Rudolstadt (Stempel auf vorderen Umschlag, Titelblatt sowie der ersten Seite des Nachwortes). - Der Umschlag bestoßen sowie geringfügig randrissig; der Buchblock an der Fußstegkante durchgehend etwas knickspurig; der Schnitt vereinzelt schwach fleckig; die Bindung des Nachworts etwas gelockert; sonst und insgesamt gutes Exemplar.
