All eight volumes are uniformly bound in full scarlet morocco. With five raised bands on the spines, the spine compartments have gilt ruled borders with gilt lettered title and author in two compartments, four compartments are decorated with hunting emblems in gilt, namely: crossed hunting horns, hound's head, horse shoe with crop, and fox's mask. Date of publication for each volume in gilt at the foot of the spines. The books measure approx. 9 X 6 inches, Jorrocks' Jaunts and Jollities is a slightly shorter in height. The front and rear boards have double ruled gilt borders, and an inner single ruled rectangle with the corners decorated with horse bits. The inner edges of the boards are decorated with a gilt filigree design. All endpapers are marbled and the top edges are all gilt faced. Six of the books are first or first thus editions, being the first illustrated editions. Jorrocks' Jaunts and Jollities is a second edition. and Hawbuck Grange appears to be a later edition. All eight volumes are in excellent condition, The morocco bindings are all very firm sound, unworn, clean and bright of gilt. A careful close inspection shows only a very few very minor marks and scuffs here and there throughout the eight books. Inside all complete and in good order. Each volume has the original owner's armorial bookplate affixed to the pastedowns. There is some offsetting to the margins of the free endpapers. Inside the pages are all very clean throughout, with no foxing . Tissue guards are all in good condition. Some of the red page marker ribbons are worn through where they have been folded. Handley Cross is a bit browned to the first few pages, and at the page edges, Overall a very pleasing, handsomely bound set of this popular series of Victorian illustrated sporting novels.
