A complete run of 'The Journal of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club', from its first publication in November 1907 to November 1972. The Fell & Rock Climbing Club is the oldest and currently the largest rock climbing and mountaineering club in the North of England, based in the Lake District. Originally founded in 1906 to 1907, the club to this day publishes rock climbing guides to the area, which are periodically updated with new routes and information for both the experienced and amateur climber. This work was published annually by the Fell and Rock Climbing Club. This set contains volume I to XXII, with each volume bound in three parts (numbered each as an individual series), except volume I Parts 1 to 3, and volume II Parts 1 to 3, which are bound together, and volume XI which contains no 30 and 31 bound together and volume XV which contains no 43 and 44 bound together. Each volume is bound in the original paper wraps, except volume I (1-3) which is in a full cloth binding with pictorial cloth boards, and volume II (1-3) which is in a half polished calf binding with cloth covered boards. Featuring a tipped in bookplate of a 'Herbet Porritt Cain' to the front pastedown of volume II. Cain was a member of the Fell and Rock Club since 1908 and later served as its President until his death on a climb in the Lake District in March, 1927. No. 20 contains a loosely inserted newspaper clipping dated '1927', reporting Cain's death. No collation available to volume I (1-3). Containing: Twenty black and white illustrations to No. 1, and three additional pages of 'Amateur Photographs'. Thirty black and white illustrations to No. 2, with three additional pages of 'Amateur Photographs', including a folding black and white plate. Nineteen black and white illustrations to No. 3, with a coloured frontispiece plate, and seven additional pages of 'Amateur Photographs'. Collated complete, with numerous in-text illustrations, diagrams and plates, and: One coloured plate to 7, 8, 33, 37, 38, and 39. One folding plate to 17, 18, 25, 42, and 50.
