Quarto. xiv, 304 pp., plates. First edition. In publisher issued full red levant goatskin with stamping in gold on the front cover and titled and tooled in gold on the spine. Binding is stamp-signed by Sotheran on the front turn-in. A handsome binding on a stately work illustrated by 32 plates (many chromolithographs). Front hinge is just starting to separate, but holding well. Half title is chipped around the edges and laid in; the frontispiece (with contemporary gift inscription on the recto) must have detached at some point and was reinserted with the illustration facing forward rather than than the title page.
