First edition 1962 collectible description of four Afrrican countries: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana visited by E.R. Braithwaite in 1961. It is noteworthy that South Africa was not included in his itinerary, although he did visit in 1973 and wrote a book about it, Honorary White, named after the status granted him by South Africa so that he could be issued a visa. Braithwaite was born in Guyana to Oxford educated parents. The only job he could find after service with the R.A.F.and a post-war Phd in physics was as a teacher in an eastend London school. His experiences there were the foundation for his not uncontroversial 1959 novel, To Sir, With Love which was made into a film in 1967. Very Good dust jacket, unclipped, with original $4.95 price tag, somewhat faded and showing some surface wear and rubbing at corners and spine top and tail, subtitled, ``a compassionate portrayal of ermerging Africa by a non-African negro.` Very good ++ tan boards shown very slight wear to corners and top and bottom of spine, perhaps very light toning to pages and gift inscription from Christmas 1964 on fep.
