Keep The Home Guard Turning, Compton Mackenzie, Chatto & Windus, 1943, First Edition, First Impression This is a comedy novel which portrays the activities of the Home Guard on a remote Scottish island during the Second World War.The characters and setting reappeared in the sequel Whisky Galore in 1947. This is a scarce First Edition, First Impression in very good condition. The binding is straight and tight, the boards, apart from some stains to the top edge of the front board, are clean and the lettering on the spine is bright. There is slight sun damage to the bottom edge of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover, is in fair condition with loss to the top edge and a tear to the bottom edge of the front cover, loss to the top and bottom edges of the darkened back cover and spine.
