Hardcover. First Edition. With numerous illustrations, plans, and maps. An examination of how to travel to the Far East by means of the Nicaragua Canal including studies of "the problem in all its varied bearings - mechanical, commecial, and political - made on the ground and in the study, and of general observation and travel to Nicaragua" (preface). Green cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Minor wear to corners and edges of boards, with heavier wear to top front corner. Bookplate of A.J. Tullock to front pastedown. Tullock (? - 1904) was an engineer from Illinois who later owned the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Company. Minor soiling and spots of foxing to fore-edge of textblock. Occasional spots of foxing to interior. A few of the fold out maps and illustrations have small creases to edges or corners. Pencil brackets to margins of a few pages.
