A charming collection of romance novels by British author, Ethel May Dell. All of these novels are in the original publisher's cloth binding, in a variety of colours. The Tidal Wave, The House of Happiness, The Serpent in the Garden, The Swindler, The Bars of Iron, The Rocks of Valpre, The Knave of Diamonds, Greatheart, The Keeper of the Door, The Safety Curtain, By Request, Where Three Roads Meet and The Hundredth Chance are first editions of the works. The Lamp in the Desert, The Top of the World, The Passer-by and other stories and The Desire of his Life are all undated, with their circa dates gathered from similar copies found on JISC. This collection is comprised of eighteen novels of romance fiction by British author Ethel May Dell Savage, known by her simplified pen name of Ethel M. Dell. She wrote over thirty popular romance novels between 1911 and 1939, with The Way of an Eagle being her first novel. The Way of an Eagle in this particular collection is the twenty-fourth impression of the work. Her stories were often set in the British Raj and other old British colonial countries. This particular collection gives us a wide insight into Dell's writing, as there are eighteen novels, spanning from her second novel ever published, The Knave of Diamonds, right up until her penultimate work, The Serpent in the Garden. All of these works are in the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart, with slight rubbing to boards and to the hinges. Light bumping to the extremities. Light soiling and the odd mark to boards. Fading to the spines and the boards. The occasional mark and offsetting to endpapers. Hinges slightly strained but holding firm to The Way of the Eagle, The Swindler, The Knave of Diamonds and The Lamp in the Desert. Ink inscription to front endpaper of The Top of the World, The Safety Curtain, The Swindler and The Rocks of Valpre. Ink inscription to front paste down of The Tidal Wave, The Passer-by and By Request. Loss to the front endpaper of By Request and The Serpent in the Garden. Fielding bookseller label to the front paste down of The Tidal Wave. Kings Cross Bookstore stamp to the rear endpaper of The Swindler. Internally, firmly bound to most novels. Generally firmly bound in The Lamp in the Desert. Pages bright and clean, with slight age toning and the odd spot to some of the novels and to the fore edge. Very Good.
