FIRST EDITION 1914. Unsophisticated rebind in blue cloth with gilt lettering spine and gilt rules spine ends, all edges slightly trimmed. NOT ex-library. No marks or writing on any pages. Solid binding but some funky binder's cloth at gutters of page gatherings (see photos).the binder secured each sewn gathering with rippled cloth binder's tape. The result is a very strong yet easily opened binding. Clean, bright pages with no foxing. The folding map at the end has some binder's cloth adhered at the stub making it strong. This binding has been created to prepare the book to be read many times. Sturdy yet supple. Complete with all pages, all photo plates, all maps. A very good working example of the rare first edition.
