Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good to Very Good. Third Edition. 1950. Third edition. [xi], 289pp. and maps on the endpapers. Henry Graham Greene (1904-1991) was an English writer and journalist regarded by many as one of the leading novelists of the 20th century. He also wrote short stories, plays, and works of non-fiction. The Lawless Roads, first published in 1939, is a travel account based on his 1938 trip to Mexico to see the effects of the government's campaign of forced anti-Catholic secularization and how the inhabitants had reacted to the brutal anti-clerical purges of President Plutarco Elías Calles, via the uprisings known as the Cristero War. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with light foxing and browning near the spine edge of the free endpapers. There is a thin split with the binding showing through down the top 3" of the spine gutter between the front free endpaper and the half-title page. A name and date (1950) has been written on the back of the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear and soiling and the spine is faded. Small pieces are missing from the corner tips and spine corners. The top edge is rubbed with some creasing and nicks. There is a tear of about 1 3/4" with surrounding creases on the bottom front edge and there are a few smaller tears of up to about 1/2" on the edges. Most of the tears have been repaired on the reverse with document repair tape. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers gLitGreene09
