This set is almost 160 years old. ______ Samuel David Gross (July 8, 1805 â Â" May 6, 1884) was an American academic trauma surgeon. Surgeon biographer Isaac Minis Hays called Gross "The Nestor of American Surgery." He is immortalized in Thomas Eakins' The Gross Clinic (1875), a prominent American painting of the nineteenth century. Printed in 1862. A massive set. This is the SECOND EDITION, with extensive new content appearing for the FIRST TIME. Still bound in the original bindings from 1862. Additional pictures have already been taken, and are available upon request. Aside for generalized wear, the main condition point is the bowing and depression to the front cover of the second volume that is hard to show in the pictures. Still, a very nice antiquarian set on Surgery, that is still in giftable antiquarian condition where being new isn't critical. This is an important early surgical text. The 2nd Edition.
