Missing final page, the one page description of the works being done at the time at Cherburgh, referred to, and indexed to page 16 of the poem. Facsimile of this last page available upon request. Bookplate from Dogmersfield Library on front cover. This first edition, issued anonymously and dedicated to Jonathan Shipley, was published at the Clarendon Press, Oxford, in 1788. A second impression, with its authorship avowed, was published later in 1788, and an enlarged, third edition in 1804. Crowe's most notable work. Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Bowles, like Rogers, have recognised the poem's value as an admirable description in harmonious blank verse of local scenery, and Tom Moore confessed that some of its passages were 'of the highest order.'.
