SCARCE FIRST EDITION in embossed navy cloth with gilt titling, no dust jacket (issued without d.j.), frontis., photos, 10 color lithograph plates of Indian artifacts, 570 pp. Dowd #476. O'Keefe #1152. Good with wear to extremities, cracked front hinge and spine, damp stain on frontis and tissue, owner note on front pastedown indicating book came from E. G. Trimmer collection in 1944. While O'Keefe reports the first edition as 1897, I have never seen one and no other bibliographies report an 1897 edition. Contains reviews of the Battle of the Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee and Gen. Howard's personal experiences in the Nez Perce Campaign.
