Tissued frontispiece photographic portrait of Max Pemberton (1863-1950). This pretty novelette is the tale of a young widow who lives simply in a forest home, but whose beauty incites the curiosity of King Louis XV. Sir Max's wife was the granddaughter of Madame Tussaud of Wax Museum fame.
