Although it welcomes the aid of the particular spiritualities usually associated with the various religious orders, still this spirituality of the Church "must suffice to satisfy completely any aspiration to sanctity," and its pedagogical method "must be objectively the most perfect, the easiest, the most effective and the most universal." This spirituality of the Church the author calls "liturgical," and his aim is to make his readers appreciate the liturgy not only as the Church's official worship but also as the food and the norm of the Christian's spiritual life. His exposition goes into the fields of history, speculative theology and practical suggestions for pastoral action. On this last point he is well aware of the great distance to be covered between the present almost universal indifference or misunderstanding and the desired full, intelligent participation in the liturgy; and he urges his reader to go through his exposition from the beginning and master the theory before considering the few practical suggestions. Dom Gabriel M. Braso, O.S.B., is prior of Montserrat Abbey in Spain. "The work is distinguished for the solidity of its theological foundations and the sobriety and clarity of its explanations. . . For some of the points of the important Instruction on Sacred Music and the Sacred Liturgy of September, 1958, the book is an excellent commentary and a very useful catechism." ~From a review by Rev. Josef Loew, C.SS.R., Vice Relator of the Historical Section of the' Sacred Congregation of Rites, in Ephemerides Liturgicae. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 7311902
