Beschreibung
Wrappers, printed paper label. Printed by Kenneth Hardacre. Together with the author's original manuscripts and typescripts (four poems in manuscript, seven in typescript, one in both), printer's dummy, sets of proofs and preliminary pulls, and printer's worksheet (84½ hours, 22 October 1961-17 April 1962). "Wind has put horn to lips and blown his song / Into a tune of clouds. / Lark song is vibrant round the pillared air / To carve a frieze above the gates of dawn. / The holy sun moves from the altar'd east / And treads the pavement day: the subject airs / Bend to the winnowing and fling abroad / The frankincense of their nativity. / Clouds take their whiteness from his purity / And gird their vestures to keep pace with him: / And happiness, the bird of sky, outspreads / His azure pinions to escutcheon him . . ." George Edward Pine published his first book of verse, The Flight of Icarus and other poems, in 1930, and his last, A Burst of Ballades, with the Kit-Cat Press in 1982. Whilst teaching at St Michael's College, Tenbury, he edited with Edmund H. Fellowes The Tenbury Letters (Golden Cockerel Press, 1942); The Pauline Muses, an anthology of prose and verse by pupils of St Paul's School, was published by Gollancz in 1947, and The Westminster Abbey Singers by Dennis Dobson in 1953 - by which time Pine was Senior Master at Westminster Abbey's Choir School. The products of Kenneth Hardacre's Kit-Cat Press are modest, elegant and distinguished; this book in the making is particularly instructive. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 30M100479
