12mo. 284pp., decorative title page with lettering in red and black. The author took the position that a lawyer's goal was the attainment of justice for the good of his fellow men. Through a series of scenes illustrating the moral dilemmas of a lawyer's life, it showed the various temptations he was prey to, such as avarice, dishonesty, and cunning, and how these could be overcome by cultivating a strong, inflexible conscience. Bound in 3/4 tan polished calf over marbled paper covered boards with matching endpapers, slightly raised bands gilt, with compartments gilt decorated and two green morocco spine labels gilt, top edge gilt, a few spots of rubbing or scrapes, upper joint has a surface split about 2" (not broken through), early owner's name in brown ink to head of title page(cannot decipher) and a few small notes or paragraph markings in brown ink.
