Première édition, rare, des Leçons sur les localisations dans les maladies du cerveau et de la moelle épinière. Les deux parties ont été réunies dans cet ouvrage. La première partie correspond aux leçons sur le cerveau, parues initialement en 1876, tandis que la seconde partie correspond aux leçons sur la moelle et paraissent ici pour la première fois. Cet ouvrage fut réédité en 1880 avec une nouvelle page de titre portant les dates 1876-1880 ; cette réédition est moins rare. Cet ouvrage rassemble ainsi les études novatrices de Charcot sur la localisation des fonctions dans les affections neurologiques. C'est dans ce livre qu'il décrit pour la première fois " l'artère de l'hémorragie cérébrale " (éponyme). Charcot reçut en 1880 le prix Montyon pour cet ouvrage, qui fut traduit en anglais en 1883.
