Card covers 207pp b&w plates. A little wear on edges, pages lightly browned; a good copy. Originally intended as propaganda for air-minded youth, this account of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force from August 1914 to the Armistice is told in the form of the diary and letters of an 'imaginary' fighter. It is preceded by a memoir of the author by Duff Cooper & John Buchan. The author served throughout the Great War, firstly as an infantry officer, then joining the RFC in 1917 and serving in No. 22 (Bristol Fighter) Squadron. He was awarded the Military Cross in March 1918. The original edition was published without photos but a number of photos from the RAF Museums collection, some previously unpublished, were included in this edition.
