Beschreibung
Slightly smaller that a 'Bibby's Annual' - but definitely from the same family - the format is the same. Brilliantly colour printed to both sides of the stiff illustrated card covers. The covers have a little edgewear / rubbing / creasing but no tears, and this is a complete and a lovely example of this early 1930s publication. Sewn binding, though oddly there is a 'rust' spot in the inner gutter, maybe the twine used rusted slightly? Measures c 13" x 9 1/2". The delightful and stylised illustrations to the covers (4 sides) are by Edmund J. Sullivan. With many other very detailed, full page, sepia/b/w illustrations inside by him also. Internally VERY clean and beautifully printed on glossy art paper in sepia and full colour. 64 pp. Contents include : - The Fundamental Truth; Wanted - A True Socialism; What is the Purpose of Life; What is wrong with The Trade Unions? (by J. H. Sneddon) ; Some Suggestive Thoughts about Education (by Bhagavan Das) ; On Self-Development; . Etc, etc. Originally planned as a Valedictory issue of 'Bibby's Annual' this publication evolved, as the original idea was unfeasible, into a sort of mixed 'Reflection' of Joseph Bibby's life (he was 81 on publication) , a Socialist outlook, and a Philosophical discussion on Life, past and present. Illlustrated with beautiful contemporary drawings by Edmund J. Sullivan especially for this publication, also by J. M. W. Turner, and many others, mainly 'historic' artists. Overall a Very Clean, Tight and Bright copy. See Images. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 114385
