Beschreibung
Autobiography of a young, African American communist, Angelo Herndon, sentenced to 18-20 years hard labor on a Georgia chain gang because he tried to organize some workers and had communist literature at his hotel. He was out on bail when he wrote this autobiography. Eventually he was released when the Supreme court found the law unconstitutional. He founded the Negro Publication Society in 1942 and launced the Negro Quarterly the same year. A key early civil rights memoir, seldom found in such a nice condition. First printing.
