Beschreibung
An excellent, first edition copy of this very scarce mathematical work on logarithms. From the library of a pioneering engineer and mathematician. From the library of Erwin Tomash, the renowned engineer who co-founded 'Dataproducts Corporation'. Tomash is recognized for his early pioneering work with computer equipment peripherals. He also lead the creation of the Charles Babbage Institute. With his bookplate to the front pastedown. ESTC reference no: T25325. Rebound, with renewed endpapers. Written by Benjamin Martin, a lecturer on science and maker of scientific instruments. His first work 'The Philosophical Grammar' was an epitome of various branches in natural philosophy. He also wrote works on arithmetic, trigonometry, geometry, and optics. Later in life, he embarked on the periodical 'The general magazine of arts and sciences, philosophical, philological, mathematical and mechanical'. Closed tear to the centre of the folding plate, encroaching onto figure VII. Tables to pages 168-171 and to the entirety of part III. Part two is at page 101, and has continuous pagination and register to part I. Part III has a separate title page and register, and is dated 1739. The title page to Part III is 'Logarithmology Part II. Containing a threefold table or canon of Logarithms' There is a leaf of publisher's adverts following the end of part II. Further adverts to the verso of the half title 'Mr Street's Table of Logistical Logarithms' in part III. Final leaf also has advertisements to the verso. Collated, complete. Rebound, in a quarter calf binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, excellent with very light shelfwear to the raised bands. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Closed tear to the centre of the folding plate, encroaching onto figure VII. Light spots to title page, and to pages 144-153 of part II. Otherwise, just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 702L26
