First edition of the 1878 edition of this guide to London, published between 1872 to 1883, illustrated throughout with chromolithograph borders, and contemporary photographs (many of which are faded). The pages with photographic images have been photographed without flash. Illustrations include Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, and the Royal Albert Hall. Including a list of hotels, restaurants, objects of greatest interest, government buildings, suburbs, places of amusements, railway stations, steamship lines, and railway and steamship routes. Illustrated with thirty full page engravings, thirteen mounted photographs of contemporary Celebrities of the Principal Theatres , two further photos of a photographic gallery (badly faded), two maps showing the Metropolitan Railway and the District Railway, and chromolithograph borders to each page. The mounted photographs show celebrities of the principal theatres, all are significantly faded see photos. Collated, complete. Original price, as stated to the tail of the title page, was twenty-one shillings. Provenance pencil inscription to the front end paper. Approximately 11 inches tall.
