Pretty nice copy. Unmarked, tight and square. Copyright page indicates first printing but price intact jacket ($3.50) states second printing. This is his first published collection of literary criticism. The title essay is directly autobiographical in that they are recollections of influences that shaped his thinking and determined his creative predisposition. Writers such as Henry James, Rider Haggard, Samuel Butler bring the perceptions of a mind informed by the creative and disciplined by the critical vision he developed. There is also brief, flashing character sketches of ford Madox Ford, Louis B. Mayer, etc. A book that is rarely seen. Jacket sunned a bit on spine with minor edgewear. In mylar. Insurance is available upon request. Books with jackets are all wrapped in mylar to protect the jacket and carefully packaged. I use bubble wrap, packing peanuts and newspaper filler to supplement. They are then boxed.
