Third printing. 8vo. xvi, 188p. Frontispiece black and white photo of Gibran plus 10 other full page black and white photos, including 8vo. xvi, 188p. Frontispiece black and white photo of Gibran plus 10 other black and white photos including several more of Gibran, as well as several of his paintings and drawings. Black cloth with gilt letters on the spine and with a vignette in gilt on the front cover of a hand holding several naked dancing figures. No noticeable wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, gilt bright, all photos present and in fine condition, else fine with no internal markings. This is an authoritative account of the life and career of the author of THE PROPHET, THE GARDEN OF THE PROPHET, and JESUS, SON OF MAN. The author, Barbara Young was Gibran's friend and literary executrix. She knew Gibran in New York, visited his Lebanese homeland, talked with his early companions and with members of his family. Because her own life has been close to the life and works of Gibran, Young was able, in this intimate and sympathetic book, to re-create the living image of one of the most extraordinary writers of the modern age. A "must have" for any Gibran fan. Young also wrote the Foreword to Gibran's PROSE POEMS. "To sit in the presence [of Gibran] through this frequent silence which descended upon him was an exaltation of the spirit. The vibration of the room heightened perceptibly, and a sense of unearthly import lay upon the air. One held one's breath, fearful of breaking in upon his sanctuary. And the return to the present seemed always an effort of the will. For seven years, and up to the very moment of his death, I had the joy and privilege of knowing Gibran as poet and painter, and as a close and beloved friend. Sever years of friendship and work; as he so generously said, we were 'poets working together in Beauty's name.'" [from the Foreword]. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 009399
