Small 4to, 215x155mm. Latin language, occasional Greek passages. Two works bound in one volume. MUSSARD:- Genevae, Sumptibus Petri Chouët. 1675. pp(2)/(8),1-169,180-249,(5) including half-title, divisional title 'De Sibyllis, &c', index, and single blank preliminary leaf; break in pagination, catchword at page 180 (overleaf from page 169) indicating no loss of continuity. With copperplate engraving of temple at title-page and 46 full-side copperplate engravings through text, as well as wood-engraved head- & tailpieces, and decorated initial capitals at first page of preface and at pages 1 & 167. Preliminary leaf dust-marked, and frayed along fore-edge. Half-title dust-soiled & handling-marked and quite densely but lightly spotted. Title-page a little dust- & handling-marked, mainly towards fore- & lower edges. All images leaving pale impressions overleaf. Contents otherwise faintly toned, with occasional dampstains of variable sizes, mainly light and all confined to margins, and with occasional isolated spots and minor dustiness. This printing APPARENTLY COMPLETE according to pagination, but with only 46 of the usual 50 full-page engravings; no engraving opposite page 1, no engraving of Amphiaraus on page 101, locations of other two absent engravings unknown. SIRICIUS:- Giessae, Typis & Sumptibus Kargerianis. 1664. First edition. Complete. pp(8)312/(2) including single blank final leaf; with headpieces to dedication, first page of introduction and page 1 of main text, and decorated initial capital at first page of introduction. Contents variably but mainly lightly toned, spotted over pages 1-16 and over final few leaves and here & there less densely so and mainly in fore-edge margins, with isolated spots, and with sizeable faint dampstain throughout confined to lower margins and of minimal effect on appearance. Contemporary untitled full vellum, spine with six compartments separated by prominent raised bands. Blindstamped panelled boards with central arabesque. Original endpapers missing front flyleaf, front pastedown with engraved armorial bookplate of Sir Henry Mainwaring Bart. Binding with ingrained dust- & other markings including diagonal broken red trail on front board. Head of spine slightly compressed. Front hinge lightly rubbed, with near-closed split of length 30mm from foot. Outer corners of boards bumped & curled. Pastedowns and rear flyleaf dust-marked. All but one of the vellum strips overlapping board insides lifted, with result that pastedown coverings split along inner edges of those lifted strips. Edges of text-block grubby. Binding holding firmly, though a little wanting in appearance. Contents of both works tight and generally clean. Overall condition GOOD. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 27528
