Biography Marcel Briguiboul was born on November 2, 1837in Sainte-Colombe-sur-l'Hers 1 . A pupil of Léon Cogniet and Charles Gleyre , he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris on April 4, 1859, where he meets Jean-Paul Laurens , Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet 2 . His workshop is located at 6, rue Furstemberg. In 1861, he exhibited at the Salon. His painting is influenced by Spanish orientalism as much as by the impressionism of Auguste Renoir and symbolism . He obtained a 3rd class medal at the Salon of 1863. He retired to Castres or Monte-Carlo from 1882, no longer exhibiting at the Salon. He dies on March 20, 1892 in Nîmes and is buried in the Saint-Roch de Castres cemetery 4. By successive decisions of the painter, then of his only son in 1893 and of his widow in 1927, the City of Castres inherited all his work as well as his property and his fortune. Thus, from 1893, three canvases by Goya Self-portrait with glasses , Portrait of Francisco del Mazo and La Junta des Philippines bought by Marcel Briguiboul in Madrid onMay 7, 1881, become the starting point of the Hispanic art collection at the Goya Museum in Castres . This museum now holds the largest collection of Spanish paintings in France after that of the Louvre Museum . His Work: He produced in multiple media: painting, watercolor and sculpture.
