Beschreibung
The Meaning of Hitlerism by Wickham Steed An important, very scarce and fascinating early pre-WW II book warning about the rise of Hitler and Naziism, its philosophy, dangers posed to society and how Naziism has tried to co-opt Christianity. Based on insightful lectures delivered at King's College, May 1934, entitled: The clash of ideas in Central Europe. OVERALL Condition: VG- Published in 1934 by Nisbet and Co. in London. First edition, first printing. In original black cloth covered boards with yellow lettering. Octavo, 238 pages. PROVENANCE: Book was once owned by Thomas Francis Healy Jr. (September 18, 1931 December 9, 2004). He was a U.S. Army general and former commandant of the Army War College and the front pastedown bears his bookplate. Healy was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 18, 1931. He graduated from Holyoke High School in Massachusetts in 1949 and then attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst for a year before being appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated with a B.S. degree and his officers commission in 1954. He also received a Diplom from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and an M.A. degree from Columbia University (1964). He also attended the Command and General Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College and the Army War College. Awards and decorations awarded to General Healy included the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, the Legion of Merit (awarded to him three times), the Bronze Star (awarded twice) and the Air Medal, awarded nineteen times overall, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Honor Medal, and other various service medals. Other awards presented to him include the Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Henry Wickham Steed (10 October 1871 13 January 1956) was an English journalist and historian. He was editor of The Times from 1919 to 1922. In the early 1930s, he was one of the first English speakers to express alarm about the new German dictatorial chancellor, Adolf Hitler. In 1934, he caused sensation with an article claiming to have evidence of secret German experiments in airborne biological warfare, influencing the British government to stockpile vaccines. Condition: VERY GOOD- The book is in VERY GOOD-condition - some spine lean with firm hinges and joints and tight pages. Colorful, unfaded boards. Rubbing to spine, edges and corners, fraying spine tips. Age-toned edges and pages. Some foxing on top edge and light foxing to the endpapers. Some light dust soiling (all black boards after all) and scratches on the boards. I have bought and sold books and art on eBay for over a decade and have a 100% satisfaction rating. I am now selling on ABE Books. I m a collector first and know what it's like to receive items not matching the seller s descriptions or that were poorly packaged and damaged in transit.
