Bound in contemporary English calf, rebacked preserving most of original spine. Text little browned only, occasional spotting and staining, a few contemporary ink annotations, some pages with short upper margin, title of first tract with paper reinforcement at gutter obscuring 3 letters of title (these added in ink), tear in lower blank margin of A4 of tract IX not affecting text, leaf B3 shorter at fore-margin. Provenance: Thomas Onions (inscribed on first title-page, first flyleaf and final page of tract XIII). RARE FIRST EDITION OF ALL TRACTS. For tracts I-XI see Fulton 123 ('This collection of eleven tracts is rare, usually imperfect, and contains two of the most important of Boyle's contributions to physical science'). Tract XI is the first work on electricity in the English language. See Dibner, Heralds of Science, 56: "Because so much electrical development originated in England, the first book on Electricity in any language, and particularly in English, is of importance. This tract appeared with one on Magnetism among a group of 11 tracts in science published in London in 1675. In it Boyle proved that electrical attraction was mutual, and that it was not inhibited by the vacuum of an air-pump jar." For tracts XII-XV see Fulton 83. These have been published 1671 in Oxford by Ric. Davis as a collection of 6 tracts with an added general title "Tracts" which is not present here.
