L'édition originale anglaise la précède de quelques mois. L'atlas se compose d"un portrait de l"auteur, de 2 plans de Mexico dépliants, de 12 planches lithographiées (vue de Mexico, Veracruz, Puebla, sculptures), et de 5 planches de costumes lithographiées et finement coloriées (On a omis Ia planche des deux cavaliers). Reliure en plein cartonnage d'éditeur. Petits manques en coiffes. Une planche de costumes détachée. Travail de vers en marge, sans atteinte aucune aux planches. Avant de se rendre au Mexique à deux reprises dans le but d'acheter des mines d'or et d'argent et une multitude d'objets qu'il présentera au public à Londres, William Bullock fut à la fois un antiquaire et un naturaliste qui rassembla quelques 32000 objets pour lequel il fit un musée (plus tard exposés dans le hall égyptien à Picadilly) ; cette collection fut dispersée aux enchères en 1819 avant le voyage au Mexique. De ce voyage, dont il ramena divers animaux et notes, Bullock fit une relation détaillée ; on y trouvera de nombreuses descriptions des moeurs et coutumes des mexicains, mais aussi des monuments, de la faune et la flore ainsi que de l'état politique du pays. The first English edition preceded it by a few months. The atlas is made up of a portrait of the author, 2 folding maps of Mexico, 12 lithographed plates (view of Mexico, Veracruz, Puebla, and sculptures), and 5 lithographed plates of costumes, finely colored (the plate of the two horsemen has been omitted). Extremities a little rubbed. Scratches to covers of volume I. A generally good and fresh copy. Publisher's original binding. Small lacks to headpieces. One costume plate detached. Marginal worming not touching any of the plates. Before traveling to Mexico twice to buy gold and silver mines and a great number of objects he displayed to the public in London, William Bullock was an antiquary and naturalist who assembled some 32,000 objects, for which he made a museum. They were later exhibited in the Egyptian Hall in Picadilly. This collection was dispersed by auction in 1819, before his trip to Mexico. Bullock gives a detailed account of this voyage, from which he returned with a variety of animals and notes; it includes numerous descriptions of Mexican customs, but also the monuments, fauna and flora, and politics of the country.
