First edition hardcover in beige cloth covered boards with brown title on cover along with a circle that shows a girl laying on her tummy reading and the words Nursery Books. There are peach colored spots and speckles more on the head of boards, and less towards the board feet. Darling illustrated endpapers fore and aft show a pasture of broodmares watching their foals, frolicking and bouncing around. There is a hint of finger soil on a few of the preliminary pages, and a spot of lighter blue sky and ghosting from an erased pencil mark on the rear end paper, the rest of the 38 pp text block is clean, tight and crisp. The unclipped (.85c), original dust wrapper is illustrated in black pencil sketches of Angel the broodmare and Michael at grass (green) and green lettering on a cream background that shows a couple stains on both front and rear panels, as well as a short closed tear on each, one on frt, one on rear. DJ now in a new polyester cover that'll keep this volume from any damage going forward. This is a darling story about the life of a colt who was born in a stable in the city. Michael enjoyed watching the horses and people in the park, but there was nobody for him to play with. The story follows him from birth all the way up to the ripe old age of four weeks, when his owner takes him and his mom, Angel to live in a huge pasture in the country that has hundreds of other moms and foals. Some super cute illustrations, especially the one of the pair riding in a trailer together. Michael is elated to have so many new friends to play with and a happy ending is had by all.
