Book description: Fine Full Morocco dark red leather hardbound binding by Tallibart, spine cover detailed with (5) raised bands/stamped/embossed gilt title on upper spine, fine gilt stamped/embossed double line border accents outer board edges, stamped/embossed sextuple line border accents perimeter of inside boards framing marbled end papers, 14 chromolithographs (some with fine rice paper leaf protector) and 400 full and partial page engravings on wood, gilt upper leaf edge, mylar sleeve/cover protects book outer surface. This volume was the first in a series on "Arts in the Middle Ages" This volume was very successful and advanced the beginning of additional volumes. Dimensions: 10.5in. x 7.5in. x 2.25in. Book condition: Good; frail front/rear hinges [broken leather cracked at surface, binding cords hold intact(slightly weaker at rear)],covers generally even in color (slightly darker at perimeter and areas or handling), minor chips effect spine crown/heel, gently bumped upper corner tips, rubbed extremities, 249-260Pp. (.25in. tear at long leaf edge center, does not effect text), some of the remaining rice paper protectors are folded haphazardly between text pages, inscription/pricing notes on front free end paper, light age toned pages, clean text pages, strong square spine.
