Beschreibung
Marbled paper on boards with brown leather to spine. Gilt lettering to faux black label on spine. All page edges marbled. Rubbing to extremities. The hinge inside the front cover is cracked, but the book is secure. Very clean and tidy, and firm, throughout. A collection of articles written by the Paisley Antiquarian, David Semple. As is the wont of Victorian writers, the titles are excessively long, but cover the subjects of mistakes made in Crawfurd's History of Renfrewshire, fables regarding the romance of Queen Mary and Lord Darnley at Crocston, and the carving of his name on a yew tree by Robert Burns. Also the Barony of Renfrew, the demolition of Paisley Town's House, the Blythswood family, History of Abbet Bridge at Paisley etc., etc. Thed author was born at Townhead, Paisley, on 21 Aug. 1808. Educated in the local grammar school and trained in a lawyer's office, he settled in business on his own account in Paisley, and was considered an able conveyancer. He was long the agent for the liberals of the burgh. He was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He died at Paisley on 23 Dec. 1878. The articles were put together and published by Cook of Paisley in 1878, the year of Semple's death. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 001456
