Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Shell, Tad (illustrator). Hardcover book with actual wooden boards in near fine condition. Vertically oblong octavo. The front wood board has a stamped colored illustration of three men with white aprons gathered around a cauldron over a fire. The outlines in black and scroll framed title are stamped on and actually indented slightly in the wood. The colored portions of white, yellow, orange and black are overlaid on top. The front wood board has two copper hinges installed where the board is divided about a half inch in from the spine edge, so it flips open neatly there. There are also four holes within that half inch strip which originally connected the back and front wooden covers with leather thongs. These have since been replaced with pieces of green hemp twine. The stain from the wooden boards has transferred an imprint of the wood grain to the last free endpaper, and a bit of transfer to the edges of the title page. There is an inner two staple edge binding to the pages. Humorous drawings throughout by Tad Shell, who also did the cover illustration.
