8vo 8" - 9" tall; 341 pages; 1868 G W Carleton HC 1st US edition. Original brick red cloth with detailed Victorian blind stamped borders (styled after rough tree branches) and Carleton colophon to boards with titles in gilt to spine. An uncommon Sand work in the US 1st. This example retains original pale blue endsheets and is generally clean and bright. A small puncture hole to the cloth near the top spine impacts the "Mlle." of the title - but has been inexactly mended and closed. Several signatures starting and one or two loose. A Break in the binding mid book has severed the cords. Still clean and complete. Armorial bookplate of P Field mounted on front pastedown. Good only. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 40-VM4L-FUUR
