A first edition of this historical work by Kenelm Henry Digby. First edition. Kenelm Henry Digby (c1800-1880) was an Anglo-Irish writer born at Clonfert in Ireland. His reputation rests chiefly on his earliest publication, The Broad-Stone of Honour, or Rules for the Gentlemen of England (1822), which contains an exhaustive survey of medieval customs. The work was subsequently enlarged and issued (1828 29) in four volumes entitled: Godefridus, Tancredus, Morus and Orlandus. In a brown cloth binding with brown paper covered boards. Externally, sound with slight rubbing. There is a library stamp and a bookplate to the recto of front free end papers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Front hinge is slightly tender. Pages are generally bright and clean with some scattered light foxing and age-toning. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers GEN2-D-17

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores historical perspectives on the virtues of chivalry and Christianity during the Middle Ages. It examines how changes in religious beliefs in the 16th century profoundly impacted Christian unity and the social and religious landscape of Europe. The author considers these developments in the context of the rise of new forms of philosophy during this period. The book offers a balanced and nuanced view of the topic, drawing on insights from different scholars and religious leaders. It argues that these historical events continue to have relevance for understanding the relationship between religion and society in the present day.
